I found out that the fan cooling the board stopped running. I ordered a new fan. Should I connect it to the board or the PSU?

I've seen people do it both ways. Seems that people who have their board far away from the psu wire it into the board. My board is next the my psu, so I wired it into a gang block that is wired between my psu and board. I have two other control box fans that are fed from the same gang block which is why I wired it that way.

I connected the fan to the PSU and it ran so I cancelled the order for new fan. I think that the header on the board is for fans with three wires instead of two.
