Greetings Gentle people and best wishes for the holidays,

Presently, I'm trying to build the subject 3D printer. right off the bat, I made a mistake in my parts buy, where I acquired the Blackbox Controller only later to realize it is intended for CNC routers. I also acquired the 24 v power supply
Using NEMA 23 steppers is desired. I may need to run 2 motors in parallel for the vertical (Z axis) and 2 on the back and forth X-axis. The Y axis holds the print head.
So, I'm very curious about your electronics set up....power supply, controller(s).

A friend suggested using the Raspberry PI 4B with OCTO PI to run the whole printer operation.

Others have said to look at (RAMPS, Duet, MKS, etc).

I'm novice in this 3D printer area, so I don't yet understand the details that would help me understand the difference between g-code and code Blue!

Thanks in advance for your comments,

    Jim

I run a 400x400mm z axis bed (with a thick aluminum plate) and I'm using a single Nema 17 to drive it. The key is 3:1 gear reduction. It not only triples the strength of the motor, but also triples the resolution. This isn't applicable to the x / y axis due to the speed needed but it really helps on the Z. I have used all sorts of controllers and I now use a Duet WIFI2 board. It's definitely the pinnacle of controllers at this time. It has high quality stepper drivers and a very nice web interface so I can control my printer from my cellphone if needed. Also, look into using an ATX PSU to supply power to your printer. You can set the whole printer to turn off after a print is finished and is very convenient. You are more than welcome to send me a PM if you have any questions. Please take a look at my D-bot build to see my printer : Double D-Bot 400mm x 400mm x 600mm

    Hi Troy,
thanks for your comments. Very useful. Your build looks great! What did you use for the black cable holder? How hard was it to get the Duet to work? Many comments I saw online were negative. I have the power supply from OpenBuilds. Controlling from cell phone is great. Do you have a screen on your build also? Didn't notice it.
    Cheers, Jim

I just used cable management plastic from Amazon, and the holder was made using tinkercad. The Duet has a nice configuration tool that customizes all the files needed to get the Duet to work. I don't use a screen on my printer. I can use my personal tablet, a laptop or my phone to control it since it's all webpage driven.
