In Openbuilds control is it possible to change the Jog increments? I work in inch, and the minimum increment is .010, that is too much when zeroing a 1/64 tool. I would like to add a .001 increment. Also the precision of the "DRO" is also only .010, i need that finer also
Not at this time, but you can always send custom moves using the Serial Terminal or Macro buttons: See gnea/grbl Invest in a Probe? See XYZ Touch Probe Plus and docs:xyzprobe:start [OpenBuilds Documentation] and also the video: No need to Jog...
It rounds off for display purposes, but internally, after a probe, Grbl will be spot on (at the step resolution of your machine)
Will that probe system hook up and work with the older original Lead 1010 control board it came with at release?
Yes, refer to the docs linked above, in particular: docs:xyzprobe:wiringgeneric [OpenBuilds Documentation]
DRO for inch is .001. Was added in 1.267 OpenBuilds/OpenBuilds-CONTROL I wrote a macro that will change the step sizes to .001, .010, .1 and 1 when in inch mode. I havent had any issues with it but obviously test thoroughly. sharmstr/OpenBuildsHacks
I tried it and I'll call it 50% perfect. I miss the option to hold the jog button down and have jog continuously at the rate I had selected rather than having to click repeatedly.
I'm assuming by rate you mean increment size. AFAIK, Control has never factored in increment size when continuous jogging. Meaning I move the same distance per amount of time I hold a button down no matter what jog increment I have selected. Is that what you mean?
Yes, that's what I meant. Without it, when you press the jog button, the axis move at a rapid pace. Once you let go of the jog button the axis may under shoot or over shoot. Then I have to go to the step size option and click repeatedly to get to the place I want, rather than just keep pressing it until I'm close or dead on.
Ok cool. You said "miss" which implies that it existed and my macro changed that ability. Since jog increments dont factor into continuous jogging I dont think we are gonna get there. The only way I see to get fine detail continuous jog is by lowering the jog rate. Sounds like what you really want is something like variable speed during continuous which isnt going to happen with grbl as far as I understand it. It would be great if I'm wrong.
Yeah, it is the jog speed that makes the difference. After posting the previous post I was thinking about it. In Mach3 I used a shuttle and I could jog to the one thousands of the place I wanted and I realized it did it by changing the jog speed/mm on the fly. I then remembered that I tried to change the jog speed in Control too and it too gave me precise placing of the gantry but it's a pain to do for the same reason as the jog step size. Could a shuttle be connected to Control and accomplish that?
So do I get a better review now? LOL I set up a shuttle with the blackbox since I have one on my Tormach, but Control doesnt support variable speed jogging so it was basically sending a bunch of keystokes. We recently discussed it briefly and I guess there is a way of doing it in grbl but there's issues with it. I didnt really dig into it beyond that.
