I've decided the machine I need for my unique projects is a rotary turntable with a stationary Z axis (just up and down). I need a table that can accommodate approx 12" diameter material with a Z cutting of 12" in height.

Anyone built something similar? I'm mostly looking for advice on a turntable/lathe chuck supplier.
I want to cnc carve head busts out of high density foam and soft basswood.

Would this require a special controller of just a Z and A?

    turn

I think the hardest part will be generating the g-code...
