Does anyone know if there's a good "standard" nichrome wire that people use for a foam cutter? Amazon sells fine e-vape heat coil wire by the roll for DIY rewinding, it seemed like the cheapest option on there, but I don't know if it'll hold up to the forces of cutting and tensioning over long spans.

I used this from this german shop: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/421201/Widerstandsdraht-565-m-1-St/SHOP_AREA_17441
The diameter is 0.5 mm and it cost 4,21 Euro and it is 10 Meter. Search for a similar one.

I have seen a you tube video of somebody using MIG welding wire as the resistive element in a foam cutter. Sounds like a good idea - strong , cheap, available.

I used mig wire in my cutter while cutting parts for a hovercraft. Just went over to the welder and fed some wire and cut it off. worked well for me.
