    Hello-
I am in the early stages of planning a build for a 2 axis CNC lathe. This will be my first CNC project. Nearly all of it will be built using OpenBuilds parts and hardware. To run the two Stepper motors I want to use a gShield (gShield v5) with my Arduino Uno to handle GRBL. My question is do I need OpenBuilds Stepper Motor Drivers too?

I'm still a newb so I may flatly be asking the wrong question. Am I creating problems for myself by going with Arduino instead of using all OpenBuild electronics?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

You will not need external drivers with the gShield, but the max output is 2.5 amps. I'm sure that anything about 1.5 amps would require active cooling on the board.

Also keep in mind that OpenBuilds has no electronics. The 542 based driver is relatively generic, but works. The controllers are from independent sources just like the gShield. It is ALL Arduino based.
