I believe this is my current problem, went through Wi-Fi set up but never could connect after reboot. When I tried to repeat the process, get stuck at 2.3 Configure Wi-Fi using the web interface
    because http://192.168.0.41 is "unreachable"

Id like to follow the step instructions you have given above but im afraid my computer competence is too low...As in, I dont understand step 1 (Download ESPtool (attached) and extract the zip somewhere you can reach from command prompt)

I realize the previous page spoke about long-file names; my question is about short file names. I thought I would outsmart Interface by just labeling my parts A.gcode, B.gcode, C.gcode. Moving these files onto the USB stick they appear as AXXXX~X GCO, XXXXX being garbage text. Why does Interface throw in garbage characters to fill the 8 characters? It's totally random too. File names list out as A.gcode = A3F7F~1 GCO, B.gcode = B2726~1 GCO, C.gcode = CF45F~1 GCO (usually it cuts off the gcode extension).

I have 30 machine files now and it's getting hard to sort through them as it also doesn't exactly sort by file name.

this is happening because you are using long filenames
a short filename (to Windows) is a maximum of
    12345678.123
since your filenames have .gcode extenstions (5 chars instead of 3), they are considered long filenames and WINDOWS, not the Interface, generates random short filenames for them.

solution, just rename to "A.nc" etc and the short names will match the names you set.

Hello. I am considering buying BlackBox and Interface. Is it possible to use the Interface to make a step of 0.01 mm by pressing the direction key once? Does the interface have a mode of continuous movement and movement by a given step? Thanks!

Interface is Continous jogging only. For accurate stock origin setup, checkout docs.openbuilds.com/xyzprobe

Thank you for fast reply. Unfortunately this doesn't work for me. My projects start strictly from the center. Is it possible that in the future this feature will be implemented with the next firmware?

    Not likely no.

But you could consider a small change in CAD or CAM workflow. Origin off front left corner, move drawing by entering accurate measurements in CAD/CAM to where the stock center is.

    Hi... New here to Openbuilds...
Just bought the Interface thinking it can Jog in absolute steps as i am in need of this too... (just to note... I have the probe plus) everything is great but sometimes you need precision of jogging 0.1mm and 0.01mm example when trying to center 4th axis or stocks that are not in square shape...

+ One for the jogging by steps/mm.... If its not going to be implemented, is there a way i can make some shortcut with a macro to move each axis 0,1mm & 0,01mm at least to correct the continuous jogging move?

This option will greatly increase the appeal for purchasing a complete set of equipment. A matter of pure development. With best regards

Still unlikely to be implemented. Fine-distance jogging to setup jobs is not very typical.
To locate 4th axes, use Machine Coordinate macros / gcode headers (it should always be in the same spot on the machine for XY, Z centerline height will always be the same so CAM off center instead of outside diameter)
Edit your Post to set Origin based as G10 offsets from Home (MPOS)

For other uses, CAM up with bottom-left corner as origin (even "center" stock pieces - just measure the stock and CAM up accordingly) and use the XYZ probe: https://docs.openbuilds.com/xyzprobe

    These make things EASIER :)
Nobody jogging in zeroes in 0.1mm increments - theres way faster and more accurate ways - just needs a little rethinking :)

I understand. It just allows to cover different techniques and expand your strategy-building possibilities

I have the OB Interface, but coming from using Haas controllers, I would prefer an interface with physical buttons, is it possible to connect another style interface to the Blackbox?
Second question, if I stay with the OB Interface, is there a way to simply tell the machine where it is in space (e.g. while setting zero I use a block of a known height) instead of only having the option to set the current location to zero?

If you like a more full featured UI, that would be a PC running CONTROL (see OpenBuilds Software: OpenBuilds CONTROL and OpenBuilds CAM )

Slight change in workflow (start CAMing and setting origins using a XYZ Probe instead of blocks and manual position entries) etc will greatly ease your experience

On pieces where I use the material surface as my Z-Zero, I generally do use the OB XYZ probe, but if I'm setting my z-zero from the spoil board I'm not able to do that, unless there's something I'm missing?

Flip probe upside down, place on spoil board, probe Z only :)

I have no idea why such a simple solution completely evaded me LOL. Thank you so much!

I am working on finishing the build on my new diy cnc. I have chosen to use a Centroid Acorn for my control board. I was considering using this interface as a remote pendant controller. Can anyone tell me if this will work with my Acorn. This is all still pretty new to me and not having my machine up and running yet does not help.
    Thanks for any I put.

Check if it runs standard grbl/grblHAL and most importantly has a UART: docs:interface:connect-generic [OpenBuilds Documentation]

    Peter,
Thanks for responding. Any idea where I might find this information? I do not see anything in the literature.
    Thanks for the help.

Could check with the manufacturer. Otherwise grab an X32 for proven compatibility (see https://docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox-x32 )

Has anyone tried a WIFI USB stick? I believe you can transfer files to it from your computer...

How can I tell which version of the "BlackBox" I have? and does it matter?

Why the extra expense? Interface has that built in. Refer to the documentation please docs:interface:wifi-upload [OpenBuilds Documentation]

Can't get the interface to work. Have the same screen that was posted about 4 pages ago.

Blackbox 4 is powered from my power supply. No USB connection. Get the screen shown in the attached image.

Interface WIFI is available and I'm connected to it but "Couldn't open page because the server stopped responding" (http://192.168.4.1). This is with Safari and Chrome.

    Firmware is 1.57.

WIFI light is flashing. Should the AUX light be on?

    Any ideas?

    1) which lights are on on the Blackbox (picture will do)
    2) check cable between BlackBox and Interface
    3) as you mention its a BlackBox 4X, an older one? Did you follow "all" the setup steps in docs.openbuilds.com/interface (some older 4Xs has additional prep steps)
