The Openbuilds NEMA 17 motors specify max 1.68 Amps and have a holding torque of ~0.55 Nm. You shouldn't exceed the current rating or you will overheat the motor (they get hot enough within their rated current!). The other motor has a max current of 2.3A and a holding torque of 0.79Nm, so is potentially more powerful, but much, much bigger machines than the one in the photo you posted work just fine with NEMA17 sized motors.

    Yes.

Nothing in particular. Just an EE being curious at this point. I always find it helpful to be able to see what is going on under the hood.

I saw the Blackbox x32 has support for SD cards but I don't see a slot on the box itself, how does it work?
I've been thinking of upgrading my x4 BB to the newer one for the wifi support, but was keen to store files locally on the device incase of network interruptions.

Found the image showing it! my apologies. 1 more question though, I see the interface plug is a RJ45 now, I have the old Dupont style plug with x4 currently, do all x32 Blackboxes come with a new cable for the interface or is there somewhere I can buy one?

I encountered a problem with X32 on my cnc. Previously it was managed by a 4X, i could launch a job from Interface.
Now, all is connected on the 32X, if a try to launch a job, i receive error messages (EMI interferences). If i disconnect the spindle, no errors, but of course i cant do the job
I managed the wires, installed ferrites, all is correctly grounded, but no way. The same job can be managed from computer without errors.
I had no problems of EMI with 4X, so why now with the X32 ? Something to do to prevent this problem ?

With EMI it's always more important to address the source. The X32 is FCC certified, so more likely a problem coming off the VFD. Proper earthing, shielded cabling for the 3-phase cable etc? Have a read though docs:blackbox-x32:faq-emi [OpenBuilds Documentation]

As @Peter Van Der Walt said, plus VFD to spindle cable as far away from other electronics as possible?

    Alex.

Peter, problem solved. EMI where maybe one of the cause, but in fact the cable to connect Interface was buggy. The 'phone' side was not correctly inserted into the plug, and i had noisy signals.
So i made a plug to be able to connect the cable for the BB 4X and it works perfectly.
I couldt find in the store the cable BBX32 to Interface, anyway to buy one somewhere ?

Hello Baroudeur, I have the same type of issues and as much I would do, I keep on having the same problem.
I cannot run any job at all!! I would like to try your solution, who knows...
How can I do it? Can you explain in detail how can I make the new wiring, sealing and reconnect to the right ports?
I would appreciate very much, I'm desperate.
    Thank you

Please contact the Store via support.openbuilds.com > New ticket for assistance. The cables included are correct. Store support will help you locate root cause (missed setup step, EMI, something else)

    Ok, thank you Peter
    I've already picked a ticket.
I have done everything Open Builds suggests about EMI: Metal case, grounding, shielded cables, ferrites, distance..... I don't know what else I can do to run a simple job, little one...
    Thanks

There are several inaccurate claims in this document and some of your older posts - we would prefer you retract it.

Standard cable is straight through RJ12 to RJ12 these days, you had the old Hybrid cable for backwards compatibility with older Interfaces.

If you received one that slipped through QC take it up with the store, but to write an entire document questioning the design (which was only a mindful interim solution to help customers with older Interfaces) is a little odd. Please contact the store via Support > New Ticket for further assistance or discussion. Future replies along this topic will have to be removed (perhaps past ones as well) as this is sadly not how we prefer our customers are supported.

We did direct this customer back to the Store too, lets please honor the official support channels so this customer can receive the correct and official support he needs.

His issues are EMI related. Crossing RX and TX would result in NO connection, so that information of yours is 100% incorrect in his case.

    Hello there good people!
is there a 3D model for the Black box X32?
I searched in several places of this website and the GrabCAD page but I could not find anything.
Im building a product and we're considering using one on it.
If there isnt one, perhaps someone could provide me with the mechanical dimensions?
That way I could at least use a correctly sized box in the CAD model of our product.
    Thanks for your help!

It's exactly the same dimensions : 3D Warehouse - the X32 has not been posted as a model yet

With a custom pinmap and recompilation, you can move stuff around.

Tool length is just a normal probe operation though, some folks just place the probe plate back in a predefined position (mill a pocket for it in the spoilboard) so your macros can head there repeatedly
Or just use another Normally Open sensor of some sorts wired in parallel to the stock probe.

Ganged Y is our default yes

Gotcha. I need both probe port (for a 3d touch probe) and the door endstop for the tool length sensor. need to look into that then.

Door as door. 3D Touch and Tool Length in parallel (Both NO) or Series (Both NC) or via some switch/plug arrangement - both on the same probe input. Even with pinmap you can't have multiple seperate probe inputs, its always handled in wiring. Nothing custom needed to achieve the outline you set

Thanks. Ill do it that way then.

I successfully flashes grblhal onto it now and i wanted to start the spindle with iosender but nothing is happening. Did i miss anything? The blackbox is connected to the vfd with a 0-10V cable

Well, BlackBox was preflashed, so that would have been fine.
Lets assume something was configured wrong, rather flash CONTROL > Wizards and Tools > Firmware Flashing tool > BlackBox X32 tab > Machine Style 3 Axes with Door > Flash
Load a machine profile (CONTROL > Grbl Settings tab > Select a machine from the list > Save > Reset when Prompted)
VFD wired as per docs:blackbox-x32:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation] - make sure VFD parameters and wiring (Fwd Jumper wire) is correct
