I have a live edge slab of ash that is 2ft x 4ft that I have been using as a coffee table. I decided to 3d carve a section of the map of middle earth into it using my lead 1010. I used aspire to convert a bmp into a height map, I decided to keep the map texture in place to give it some more interest, and then created 3 inch tiled tool paths. I also created a sled as part of this to mount my stock to that allowed me to move the piece in the Y axis to cover the entire cut. It took 37 hours of total cut time at 10% step over but came out pretty good.
