    I got one of my laptops that will not connect to the black box.
    "USB device not recognized" Is all I get. Device manager shows;
    "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

    I tried installing the FTDI drivers but not sure I have installed the correct ones. Other laptop connects just fine so sure it is not a block box issue. Looking for suggestions to try, a link to the correct FTDI drivers would be nice, thought there would be one in the docs but didn't see one.

    thanks

    Motherboard chipset drivers installed?
    Port itself damaged (try other ports on the machine)
    Test power supply - failing desktop PSUs often result in issues similar due to noise on the 5v rails

    Will check those, but all other USB devices function on that laptop. I did try other port, no go.

    And still does? Just in case you picked up damage since the last time you tried?

    Anything else different - eg different USB cable etc?

    Yep, after installing my modified high Z mod. I needed to reverse the direction of the Z, wanted to connect with my shop laptop (windows 10) but got the error above. So got my Windows 8 laptop and connected just fine. Tried installing - reinstalling drivers on shop laptop but no dice. Not a real big deal as I normally don't use the Openbuilds software. I just needed to change the Z direction. I use the Interface for running my gcode from USB. Shop laptop works fine with other USB devices so not sure what the deal is.

    Btw, you should consider including the second C beam on the X axes with the Lead 1010 just like the lead 1515, it is a HUGH stability improvement.

    Thanks

    If your Interface Firmware is up to date you can do that on the Interface > Tools and Utils > Edit Grbl profile menu

    Other than that, as it works fine other than that PC, it is a problem with that PC
