I wonder, is the file you have does not say what each of the parts are for?

Hello again I did find that drawing in the end thanks for that.

How did you fix the X axis to the gantry side plates? Theres 4 holes do I use corner brackets underneath?

I connected them from the side with screws and tnuts and then attached that face to the side of the k40 case

This join Ariel? I can see on the bottom photo that the holes in the extrusion line up with the holes in the plate, is that so we can tap tap them if need be? It's a pretty strong join with just the corner brackets but we buy a M5 tap to make it rock solid. IMAG0727.jpg IMAG0728.jpg

Hi, I have followed your build and I am up to wiring the two y steppers. How did you do this?

I have a Cohesion3D mini and thought I could run the second stepper as a slave on the A like my router but I cant figure out how to do this.

Could you please offer some insight?

    Thanks!

    Adam

The way I had it was both stepper mottos under the same driver ( I think I inverted a pair for it go run the rotation inverse ).

I think that board runs smoothieware so I would suggest you can also search dual stepper on smoothie ware, there is a special config on the firmware to clone an axis.

    Hope it helps

    Hi,

If you designed the parts in Sketchup, do you still have the skp file?

    Regards,

    Les

I stumbled upon this and am looking forward to this! I see your build info - but where are the detail on the required hole locations - measurement, etc? I can't find anything other than a reference on where it should be - Thanks for the design.

    Hi Phil

You wont find those details, the reason being is that location can vary from one K40 top another doe to the poor tolerances used to make those cases. I would suggest you measure the available depth were the Y rail would be and align in to the first mirror as best as you can.

thanks... I'll have to measure and level.... Hey - I noticed that in one pic you pushed the ps back out of the way inside the case - that works?

Did you ever complete the rebuild?

I think 400 x 700 is just the gantry size, not the cutting area, you can't get 400 deep because the tube bay stops the second mirror traveling that far. I think about 320 would be max if you have the y axis gantry going under the bay and the laser head, mounted very close to the gantry rail, almost touching the tube bay wall.

Similarly the 700 is wishful thinking, with x axis stepper outboard you will be getting 650mm if you're lucky.

I will be putting the x axis stepper on the laser head gantry plate, moving the no1 mirror closer to the outside wall (the hole is large enough to allow that), leaving the power supply inside but mounted on its side on the right hand wall. I am hoping for about 300 x 600 using a mix of Ariel's plates and some other gantry mounted stepper plates. Y axis servos will be mounted inboard at the back, under the tube bay which is dead space anyway.

I now have all the parts, just about to cut acrylic on my 3018 cnc.

Hoping to be finished by October. Famous last words.

Also Ariel on your videos it looks like the stepper motor SS it’s mounted there is quite high can the lid be shut on your build did you also leave your power supply etc inside or move to a new separate enclosure.

    thanks for any info.

Hi Dale, Id don't have this build anymore nor any more pictures of it. Everything worked and closed as expected. In short the best approach would be to make/use an ACRO style gantry but with the steppers mounted on the back or a single stepper that has either passthrough or dual shaft for the Y axis. The rest would be to align the optics to this gantry.

    Hope it makes sense

Yea no problem thank you I was planning on using a dual shaft motor for the y axis in the middle it was the x axis stepper motor is seen on your video looked close to the lip of the front of the machine no problem thanks for the reply.
