I know first hand that the CNC bug is hard to shake!

If you don't mind me asking, why do you have such a tall Z-axis? It seems like you cut-depth will still be limited by the lower extrusion.

With 2-1/3HP Dewalt DW618 I plan on milling on 4x4's and logs. The router mount is going to be modified to allow as much Z-depth as possible... I know that I will hang up on the lower part of the router mounting...

Chicken and egg dilemma... need mill to mill parts to improve mill... LOL :)

Nice design. I especially like the router mounting system. I would however suggest swapping the X-axis rails, moving the powered rail down closer to the cutter head. This will reduce the lateral leverage thus providing more power to the cutter and less sway on the vertical axis.

Only took me a few hours to figure out what you meant, Rick!

The smaller rail was added with the second trolley for additional stability... If I find I have any issues I will consider swapping, but there is a lot of wiring routed for the current configuration... I will add some more pictures later that tell some of the design ideas that let to this setup... it is currently single digit temps F outside and it is in an unheated basement other than the woodburner, and I am not real excited about bringing in any snow covered firewood! Maybe I will throw on a few sweatshirts in a little bit... my wife and I are working on a design for our second cut!
