Before many months i had an idea about a foldable collector for rainwater, which is light and easy to make.

1- Idea and 1st apha prototype:
The first prototype (version 1 alpha) was made with wood just to demonstrate the idea. This is a video about it:

The next model has the same top form (Figure 1) but another mechanics for working.

opened_top.jpg Figure 1: Top view (click on it to open)

Figure 2 show the side view of the collector when it be opened. The pipes are avaliable everywhere and can be buyed. The parts to be 3D-printed have to be edited to be exactly suitable on the found pipes. Also the membrane is not a problem.

In Figure 3 is the collector when it be folded, e.g. when there is strong wind.

The collector can not be expensive in the costs and will help people to collect the rainwater, in syria and everywhere else.

One day in may 2014 i heard about a contest on myminifactory.com with the organisation Oxfam, so I have participated and worked on the project. Please support it.

      2- Developement and beta version:
The idea is now realised and the CAD-files are ready to use. With compination between bought pipes and some scraws and 3D-printed parts can every one build the foldable collector.

See the result in 3D with the attached 3D-PDF. Open it with Adobe Reader and click on the picture to start the 3D-mode.

      This is version 1 Beta

This Model need a nylon film under the five arms from the edge to the centre to collect the water. You need also some 10mm-screw for the axes. Small 5mm screws can be used for fixing the caps and others to the pipes.

It was designed for pipes in the size OD 48,3 of ISO 1127 series 1. For other sizes the CAD-files ".stp" can be changed.

Here are all pictures and the part list:

      3- Notifications:
When you modified the design to make it worked for your usage, please send it to me back to collect all modifications on one project site. This will help the other people. Contact me over my site: www.mabbasi.de and I will publish it.

It is Open Source - for a better world.

The right for commercial usage is just by me "Mohsen Abbasi (www.mabbasi.de)".
Any other unconfirmed commercial usage is forbidden. Use it around the world and help people to collect rain water with it, or help us to produce it.

** Be careful: The collected water has to be boiled before used !!

When you help people, you help your self and all who you love. Maybe you have enough water, but many many people don't find enough water. Maybe one time you will be one of them.

Yes, it is the hard world.

Syria .. it is for you! I did it for you and for all other people in the world

      1. Special Notes

        - Be careful: The collected water has to be boiled before used !!
        - The cheapest way for big numbers of builds is to produce the parts industrial with Mold&Die. We will do it when a organisation support it.
