My foam wing core cutting skills have been the weakest part of my composite RC sailplane glider building hobby, so I decided to remove the "weakest link" -- me.
Standard C-Beam construction, I used some aluminum angle iron to attach the vertical to the horizontal platforms. Power and control is provided by a Theremino USB interface (theremino | the real modular input output) to an old PC running Windows 7. A shield and stepper motor driver chips provide some of the brains.
Since I didn't want to breathe the foam fumes, I added a bathroom exhaust fan to the next room (where I have an external exhaust fan), and the platform is equipped with a hose to my shop vac in the next room to create a hold-down for the foam blanks.
The models are designed on devWing Foam and the cutting is controlled by devCNC Foam software, both extraordinary software by devCAD in Italy (devCad, devFus, devWing, devFoam | Cad and Cam applications).
The stage will cut up to 36" wings.
