I would love feedback on this concept before dropping the cash on the components. Are two motorized actuators on the first axis necessary here? Can I safely save a little cash and just use pulleys for the right hand side? Is timing a problem if there are two? Any other challenges/problems I may not have seen/solved for yet?

    Thanks in advance! :)

I just found this and looks very nice. Have you started the build?

You can use belt and pulleys instead of a 2nd stepper, but the stepper would be a more reliable method than the belt.

I have built it with the spare parts I got for something else. I had to flip the X axes upside down as I couldn't figure out how you had it mounted to the block spaces. It works, but shakes a lot over 500mm rods with the mini led laser testing mirror alignment. Going to try to use 20x40 when they come in and metal brackets instead of the pla I am using right now, so it's not finished yet.

Just wondering if anyone is still following this build??? If so, I'd like to ask what the flat supports for the mirrors and laser head are made of? Cut plastic? 3D-printed? Metal of some sort? Can anyone comment? Thanks!

I've just about collected all the parts and hope to start the actual build next week. As far as I can tell, the parts list doesn't include the mounts for the mirror assemblies. They look like simple, flat plates of some kind, but I don't know if they are available to buy or if I'll need to make them myself???

I just re-read the introductory comments from the OP and see that he states the plates and shims need to be custom printed.

You are correct, you do need to 3D print them.

Have you seen the files (e.g. .stl or .dxf) for those plates somewhere? I've found the shims on Thingiverse, but not the plates.
