    Hi all
Sorry if this isn't the correct place, but I'm using the 1010 with Blackbox controller.
Someone has given me a XYZ probe for free.
BUT it only has 2 wires. One goes to the clip for attaching to the tool, the other should go to the controller.
Can it work with the Blackbox or do I need to have 3 wires?

You can use it just fine

Just set it up as a custom probe

NB make sure of wiring! SIG and GND only! Do not wire V+ as you can cause shorts then

The clip should be GRD and the other wire SIG?

Custom can do XYZ. But not the fully auto mode that also determines the endmill diameter that the official probe can do. You have to measure and enter the endmill diameter manually

Of course the probe has to be an XYZ type then with the offset side overhangs

Ok thats great. Mine looks exactly like the official one, but just 2 wire. I have quickly tried the Z, but ran out of time to use it properly.

OK I've got the probe and wired it.
I've set up the Offsets under Custom Probe.
I've measured the distance between the edge of the probe and the edge of the hole. Photo attached.
When probing it does it but then sets the home about 10mm too far forward and to the side.
Am I measuring the offsets correctly?

Oh and your calipers are on the hole edges, but i can see the offset is thicker at the edge with the screw hole... Measure the offset from 0,0,0 to probes edges and top surface

Is it the thickness of the sides that rest up against the X and y of the piece rather than the hole edges? Those are about 15mm thick

Yes that's correct. Hole has nothing to do with it

Is there anything you can do if you accidentally connected the v+ with GND?

Sometimes that kills the board, very often not. Disconnect all wiring, test again. Then if it is dead http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home will be happy to help you buy just a replacement Brains board (cheaper than the whole kit)
