I’ve been using a Black Box since Jan with no issues but started a job this weekend and x is dead. I can plug a motor into other axises and hear it engage, but not on X. $4 is set to 1 in grbl settings and nothing was changed between jobs.

Will the motor run if plugged into another axis, and will another motor run if plugged into X. IMPORTANT - only unplug or plug in motors with the power OFF. Tip - disconnect a motor from the leadscrew/drive pulley for testing.

X motor will run on Z and Y but no motors will run on X.

    - At any point did you unplug a motor while the power to controller was still one?
    - Was there any other history that could have caused damage
Would be good to figure out what killed it, to avoid a recurrence

    - Yes, motors have been unlpugged with controller on in past. But nothing recent and noted as a newbie NO-NO.
    - No history of moving motors while the box is off as I knew this sends voltage back to box. No other event to cause this and box is away from plasma area.
Sounds like my motor control board will need to be replaced. Is this something I can buy separately?
Any thanks for the quick replies
    - One other note. Is it ok to shut all power down via power strip vs Black Box switch?

Sometimes, when you turn a power supply on from the mains side, it can have erratic voltage for a few microseconds while the PSU stabilizes, which can include damaging surges. We tend to err on the side of caution, bring PSU up, then turn on things attached to the PSU

Unfortunately there is good possibility damage back then took its toll now

Technically not sold seperately, but I am sure http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home will be happy to make a plan to sell you a "Muscle board" on its own - should help save a little :)
