I would build a specialized 3-axis mill: Z-axis, A-axis, and C-axis with a swappable spindle and laser head. So a 2-axis trunnion/ H-table and a Z-axis as a peck drill. This would allow for milling 3D relief hemispheres with laser-scored details.. you know, for making half globes of planets!

I'd use it to make a swappable CNC router and 3D printer.

I am in the process of building a Delta6 delta printer with 360mm diameter build area. I am still in need of a controller. Hint. Hint.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the contest.
If I'll win, it will be used as the brains for my new delta printer! (custom built)

I have always wanted to convert my manual Bridgeport mill to a CNC hybrid.
Recently I have been starting to put the plan all down on paper and sourcing components. i.e. Motors, Drivers, Belts...
I really think that a Smoothie would run the mill much better than any parallel breakout or RAMPS style device.

My printers are the the 3Done - RepRapWiki machines. I have no idea how many people have built them but the reason for them is nothing other than wanting to build an affordable high quality printer and I see no reason not to share the design for others to build it should they want to.
I have been building with Ramps since I started long ago enough that I had to solder the components onto the 1st one I built.
Smoothie boards have always been something I've wanted to add to my machines and I'd particularly want to see how it improves print quality.

I would use it for a laser build. Probably 40w or 80w co2 laser.

I have been wanting to build a new 3D printer with a larger build area. Ideally 300mm x 300mm
I have been planing to go with a Core XY design and a smoothie board to drive it. :)

I would use it on the D-bot I'm working on. Would be a good replacement for the RAMPS board.

I'd use it on the new printer I'm designing. It's based on the CoreXY architecture. I call it SemiXY, it's designed using as many stock openbuilds parts as possible. The approximate build volume will be 450mm x 450mm x 450mm. I'll be working on uploading the build to the forum soon.

Does it look like there's a miniature CD/floppy CNC pen plotter hiding in this box? I think so.
Would a Smoothieboard be total overkill? Probably.
Do I still want to try it out? Yes! :)

I would use this in an upcoming multi-use machine that will be used for producing large cuts with a router/spindle setup, laser cutting, and a non-transferred plasma torch for producing RF restive coatings. This machine will focus around large envelope production with accuracy, so the use of a board with the features of a SmoothieBoard are essential.

    Nice contest!
What would I build???... What don't I want to build???... There are so many great builds. Every time I surf the site I find something else I would like to do. Latest is the neat little laser engraver by Kyo. I did a simple 3d printer in January, Almost finished with the med sized c beam plate maker build 750x and 625y that will be used to make stuff for what will probably be aa ox like machine for 1/2 sheets (4x4). That's the machine it would most likely end up in.
Hi my name is Rod and I think I'm a buildaholic.:banghead:

The SmoothieBoard with its 32bit processor would make a great center piece for my first build!

Start with great electronics is what I say.. I have a CoreXY design in mind with a large printable surface... it's as good as mine... lol!

I would use this for my large Ox CNC. Looking at the gshield as my budget has already gone over but this would complete it very nicely
