If I put a new router bit in the collet and run jobs for a few hours. How many hours or days should I replace bits? I was running a job and the shop teacher told me to replace the bit because she thought the bit was dull -"rough" edges around pocket cuts.

Visually inspect the cutting edges for chips/rounding. Also check that it is clean. Often a dirty endmill cuts badly like a dull endmill. After a good clean - works great again

Shine a light on the cutting edge - if you see a bright line the bit is blunt.

if you feel the cutting edge with a finger (power off naturally) and you are not scared of it, it is beyond time for a new bit (-:
