I have a 1510 worker bee and wanting to up grade to a brush-less air cooled spindle, any recommendation would be appreciated

I would strongly recommend staying with a router

    1) VFDs are complicated
    2) spindles are heavy and can flex extrusion based machines
    3) "lower noise" often considered a marketing point for VFDs, but most noise come from the stock/spoilboard and endmill during the cut
    4) VFDs spit out tonnes of EMI interference, often necessitating a total rewire to shielded cables, or battling grounding, ferrite, and other solutions to avoid controller interference
    5) spindles do not fit our router mounts

How long do the brushes last on the Makita compared to the Dewalt

According to shapeoko wiki, the Makita brushes last longer.

On the flip side and not to discourage you... (and not to take away from Peter's comments)
    1) VFDs have complex functionality but are easy to set up if you find a good set of instructions
    2) Perhaps try something like a 0.8kw spindle for a good balance between power and weight.
    3) My spindle is noisy when cutting, but slightly better than my router
    4) Use shielded wire when wiring up your machine - it'll probably save you all sort of headaches regardless
    5) "spindles do not fit our router mounts" - but there are plenty of spindle mounts available

Perhaps we should ask what the motivation for wanting to "upgrade" to a spindle is?
