I've searched the forum a bit, but don't see anything like this issue.

I’m running a standard Openbuilds C-Beam 3-axis, using the Openbuild control software and my own steppers (57BYGH603). I have verified that they are wired according to manufacturer guidelines.

Both X and Z axis work fine. X + moves in the positive direction and X - in the negative direction. Z+ and Z- are good also.

When I click the Y+ button, the stepper moves in the correct Positive direction.
But, If I click on the Y+ button again, the stepper reverses itself and moves in the negative direction.
Hit it again, and it stays reversed, still heading in the negative direction.
Hit the Y+ once more, and it again moves the the correct, positive direction.

I swapped out to another 57BYGH603 stepper motor, and the same thing happens.

It appears to be a random issue.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

    Thanks for your help.

Most likely a wiring issue. If only 3 of the 4 wires are making good contact, or if you have the coil pairs incorrectly identified (color codes may not always be correct especially if sourced from different vendors) , it does exactly this:

Yep, found a loose wire connection. Snuggled it up, and I'm good to go. Thanks for your help. PS: recently had a problem getting my Black Box Controller to work. Openbuilds support did a magnificent job in helping me troubleshoot my problem. Best customer support I've ever seen - finest kind!
