I need to drill a number (40-50) of 1/8 inch holes in various aluminum parts ranging to 3/4 inch. What is the best bit and bit parameters for that job. My machine as shown Openbuilds 1510. My first attempt broke the bit after 2 holes.

It's a heat issue. You NEED some form of active chip evacuation and cooling if you want to drill that deep and that many holes. Heat builds up really quickly when chips are recut. The brake happens after the end mill has welded itself. TiCN and ZRN coatings work well with aluminum. AVOID anything with aluminum in it such as AlTiN. You'll be better off with no coating.

On my Sphinx (Bosch Palm Router), I stuck to this, but that's not going to last in a 3/4" hole either unless you have the above.

Drilling and routers don't really go well together due to the high rpm. A boring operation would be ideal if the hole was any larger.

Spot drill with the cnc then manual drill the rest of the way.

Thanks, I will try the spot drilling. Should I lower the rpm on the router? Any particular bit recommendations?
