    Hi All
Just building an OpenBuilds 1010 machine and this weekend got everything working. There is something which concerns me slightly and I just wanted to ask for advice.
When my motors are not moving, I can still hear a noise from them. Just wondering if this was normal. I would have thoughts that once things were not moving all would be quiet, apart from the fan in the control box. I am just a little concerned that over time they may burn out if they are not meant to be like this.
    Many thanks

Hi Barrie, welcome to the forum!
There is going to be a holding current when not moving, this is the nature of stepper motors, the switching frequency of the drives is often audible.
What kills motors is excessive heat, hot is when you can't hold on to it.. warm is ok and normal.
    Cheers
    Gary

That is great Gary and thank you for coming back to me so quickly.
So pleased I came across OpenBuilds. The community and information / guidance is amazing for a novice.
