Need Nema 23 - good wiring practice; wire gauge, shielding, etc

    I've started a project to add servo control for my wife's LongArm (used to "quit" blanket).
    I need some advise on wiring.

    Situation:
    o X axis motor is approx 13ft away from controller
    o Y axis motor is mounted near the power supply on one end of the LongArm
    o I assume I'll need no more than 80% capacity of the drive motors....if this makes sense...
    Questions:
    - power supply to controller? I assume 16 guage wire
    - motor wire gauge to X axis motor (shorter run)?
    - motor wire gauge to Y axis motor (longer run)?
    - can I, should I, use twisted pair wire for motors, and what if any shielding?
    - in manual: what does Nema23s vs Nema23s(reversed Y) mean? Would it apply to me with 2 motors?
    - I'll need min/max limit switches wired, can I assume 22guage wire is OK, and min/max are wired in parallel?

    I'm an experienced computer hardware/software engineer but not used stepper motors of this size before, plus I could be rusty :)

    Controller: BlackBox Motion Control System X32
    Stepper motor (x2): Nema 23 Stepper Motor 4.2A 3.0Nm (425oz.in)

    Use Power Supply Wire
    For both use the 4-conductor option Xtension Wire By the Foot


    Not needed


    Use the 3-conductor option of Xtension Wire By the Foot - with Xtension Limit Switch Kit

    Belt vs Leadscrew on Dual-Y (Workbee vs LEAD for example). Depends on your machine does it need two motors on Y? Then does both Y motors rotate the same direction or should one be reversed? Only applies to machines with two motors per-axis sounds more like you have 1x X motor and 1x Y motor

    Factory default is good, set it too high and it overheats, too low (like far too low, the scale is offset minimum is around 1.2A) it may stall
