So, with the interface plugged into the X32 it starts the boot sequence and then cycles power with three stepper motors connected(two NEMA23{X,Y} and one NEMA17{Z}) If I pull the interface off and connect a USB to my laptop it just cycles power rapidly, with the three motors connected. I can disconnect any single stepper and all is good. The system boots and the two connected motors function. Latest firmware on both the X32 and Interface. Thoughts?
Untested, might be underpowered, or just less capable of dealing with the inrush current compared to our recommended PSU so please get that in place first
Definitely feels like it it. Reboot symptom is typical of a power starvation issue, and removing a motor lowers the load.
I went back and looked at the specs on the power supplies. The one I had currently installed was only a 10A output. The draw on boot up was causing my power supply to trip internally. So I changed out my power supply to a more capable one and it boots and runs flawlessly. Lesson learned, read the specs.
When I did the CNC conversion on my mill. I overbuilt it, each axis stepper motor has its own 48vdc power supply. That control box has five separate power supplies and a buck to power everything.
Just do make sure its a safe one - the other end of it is a PSU surging above ratings can also damage BlackBox (and off brand PSUs get quite unstable under high current draw) That Meanwell LRS350 we like covers the full spread well, handles the power up current draw peaks without making the output dirty
I prefer to use nothing but Meanwell power supplies. I really do appreciate the feedback. Being new to the Openbuilds world, there things to be cognizant about.
