    Regarding the error

    1) Are you running firmware version 1.41 docs:interface:firmware-update [OpenBuilds Documentation]
    2) Are you using CONTROL version 1.0.273 or later
    3) Can you browse the USB drive otherwise OK from the Load File menu?

Can you elaborate what you mean by:

    petter

my interface is connected to wifi and is up to date with version
i have updated the software and it works now.

the only issue is how to set up the proper diameter because I have tools from 1mm to 50mm

Custom bit diameters as well as custom probe offsets is on the todo list, probably around firmware version 1.45 or so (1.42 should come out early next week, couple items ahead of custom probing in the todo list)

It seems I have the same issue. I have the latest version (verified with firmware update menu) and can browse the USB stick without any issues. However, I see you mention a specific CONTROL version, is having CONTROL required to do the probing?

Not for probing itself, but you use CONTROL (v1.0.275 at the time of this reply) to create the USB Drive that contains the supporting files like probe macros etc: See docs:interface:prepare-usb-drive [OpenBuilds Documentation]
If you do not do this step, the files are not present on the Flashdrive, and thus cannot be executed

OK ... I am probably missing something or not getting something, but my interface is not reading the USB stick I am inserting I have tried several different ones and no luck. What is the procedure for reading and loading the file into the Interface?

Some of the Interfaces needs a little cleaning of the contacts inside the USB port - seems since the factory QA, along shipping or cleaning somewhere along the way, a little oxidations built up on the contacts. A quick little clean with emery cloth See INTERFACE CNC Touch Controller

OK I have downloaded the driver but my computer is not recognizing it... My software version is .1.23 when I try to update it it says not enough memory... Plug it in to computer and it does not see it at all like I said I downloaded the driver and still nothing.

Using a USB-C data cable? As mentioned, the cable that comes with your Interface is just a Power Cable

    Thanks for confirming.

In your other thread you mention you expect it to appear as a drive, now, knowing that it wont (its a serial device not a drive) moving forward:

Does CONTROL detect its port when you connect/disconnect its cable (check Serial log tab while plugging it in, it will show "Changes in Ports" or something to that effect, and list the ports it found. Unplug it again, and see if a port disappeared from the list)

Right, so now that its detected, moving forward, try the process in docs:interface:firmware-update-control [OpenBuilds Documentation] again
    - make sure you have CONTROL v1.0.275
    - use the Online documentation (not an old print) as the procedure details has been added to since then

OK when I plug in the interface it says Custom Firmware Binary File, FTDI USB to Com4, use custom firmware image and there is a green Flash button

Are you on 1.0.275? (older version will not suffice - grab it from software.openbuilds.com if its not)
Can the computer connect to the internet to allow CONTROL to download the latest version (if it cannot download, it will just offer the Custom option, not ideal, please make sure it has internet access)

That that PC doesn't allow CONTROL to access the internet

If you are 100% sure you have v1.0.275, then you can use the Custom option, and download the image from here: https://github.com/OpenBuilds/firmware/raw/main/interface/firmware.bin

Just checking in on you, did you manage to update the firmware using the CUSTOM option and downloaded firmware.bin?

No problem at all :) just checking to see if you need help yet.

No, the USB issue is not firmware related, see INTERFACE CNC Touch Controller

Turn on my interface to see we have a new firmware update to 1.45 . It took two tries but the interface downloaded and installed the new firmware. My only issue is what has changed? It would be nice to have a changelog so we can track changes and also report new ones as they appear.

Did not know that but very nice to see. The abort button was major for I lost two bits and it scared the hell out of me when it just paused and would not allow me to home the machine without a full power down.

    Thanks

For the last week, everything has been working great. No issues with the USB drive, All the buttons work and I ran the machine for hours and it just ran. I did upload the new firmware and now I have a new issue. Right in the middle of a job the unit just stops. All buttons including abort stop working. It also indicates that it is disconnected from Grbl and has no internet connection. It is now failing like this about every 15 minutes so it has put me out of business. I noticed that the new firmware had this fix "Changed pause procedure to react to Grbl Feedback". Could we have induced a bug? Is there any way to go back one version in the firmware?

If it shows DISCONNECTED it means it got disconnected. Cable between Blackbox and Interface: not seated well, cable damaged, etc

Means at least 5 seconds have passed since Grbl last responded to a status query

Peter - What would happen if one of the home switches opened up or was triggered while running?. I had cable failure with the steppers and actually replaced them twice before I upgraded and got industrial cables. With the new cables have not had another stepper cable failure. I notice the switch cables wires are the same cables that are used on the old stepper cables. If they are I would assume they are susceptible to the same failure? I am going to replace the Z and X home switch cables and see if that helps.

A falsely triggered limit should bring up a red Alarm "Hard limits triggered" on screen
