I'm having an issue with Lightburn. I have opened a lightburn forum discussion with no progress, So, I'm hoping the Openbuilds Collective can help. I have an Openbuilds Lead 1010 w/blackbox x32 controller and the Jtech 44w Octo Pro laser attachment. I using a pretty fast Windows 10 laptop to run everything. Here’s my problem. I’ve burned a dozen or so small photos and this weekend I tried a 10x10. The image starts off great, then after about 1/2" into the photo the whole image takes a big jog. This issue keeps repeating at different intervals throughout the image. Here’s a photo Any Ideas? Thanks in advance....Ray
Couple possibilities grubscrew on shaft coupler slightly loose causing slip during direction changes max rate set too high - causing stall when it gets up to speed Grbl v1.1 Configuration
Hello Peter, Thank you for your help! I double checked the set screw in the coupler and they are all tight. So I went into lightburn to change the speed settings. On my first post (above) the setting were 175 ipm at 40% power. So I changed the settings to 100 ipm at 20% power. The speed change was obvious. It made it through 2" with no problems, I thought great, the speed was the problem, BUT then at about 2.5" it took a 1/2" jog. your suggestion that the max rate is too high makes sense, Shouldn't changing the speed settings in lightburn change the Grbl configuration. Once again, I'm stumped.
I am not sure if Lightburn can edit Grbl settings, why not use CONTROL, tune it correctly: Grbl v1.1 Configuration and Grbl v1.1 Configuration then handover back to Lightburn as a CAM? Grbl wiki describes the procedures
Thanks again! I'll try your suggestions, using CONTROL and then Lightburn and let you know. Cheers.... ps. being new to all this, it really helps a LOT to have someone replying and trying to help me!
No, it doesn't - it just changes how fast Lightburn asks the the GRBL controller to move. Given that you've had the same thing at two different speeds, it's *probably* the acceleration settings that are a little too aggressive. You can't (sensibly) set these from Lightburn - go into Control; the Grbl Settings tab and look at $120 and $121 settings. My suggestion would be to reduce them by ~50% and see if you still have an issue. If not, try increasing by 50% of the new value and testing again - repeat until you start getting problems and then reduce to about 80% of whatever value that is. Good luck
You, and Peter were right. It was the $120 and $121 settings. I reduced both by 50% and everything worked great. It took a long time, but it worked. Now I'm tweeking the setting to find the optimal settings. Thank you both so much! without your help, I never would have figured this out. Cheers.
