    Hi all

after some advice as i've blown another laptop in the shop so Im going to start using a pi instead of a laptop for sending the g-codes to my workbee.

I've tried openbuilds control (not sure if it will work on RPI) but with some of my cuts on the laptop it used to slow down to a minute crawl,

UGS? not my favorite control sender but good for XYZ Probe

bCNC, not a big fan as i like things nice and simple and the rpi version is local info only, and all my designs are stored on the office PC

so id like to give CNCjs a try. I've been battling through installation guides all weekend and after 3 days I still cant get it running.

Does anyone have a walk through or a good video source on how to set it up?

    Thanks in advance

My opinion: Pi is too slow, SD cards corrupt if you look at the Pi funny, and yeah who wants to spend days installing dependencies. But i run a couple Pipo X9/X10s around my shop. They stand up really well to the dust. Built in touchscreen is awesome.
Runs windows 10 so works with all the above. [US$219.99] Original Box PIPO X10 Pro 64GB Intel Z8350 Quad Core 10.8 Inch Dual OS TV Box Tablet Tablet PC from Computer & Networking on banggood.com
    Of course 'cheap or free PCs on Craigslist' is not a thing where i am (;

Oh and yes it can OpenBuilds/OpenBuilds-CONTROL but I don't recommend it - Pi is just too slow, not enough RAM)

How much RAM would it need? Would it be feasible with the new RPi 4 with up to 4GB RAM?

Additionally, have you ever heard of OctoPi/OctoPrint for 3D printing? I'd try to go into detail about how it works with a bunch of technical jargon, but I would fail miserably- not to mention I'd probably code something myself if I knew all the ins & outs.

All I know is that it's web-based on your local network. (You can access it beyond your local network, but this is an obvious security issue.) I can access it via my phone, laptop, or tablet to upload files and print/pause/etc. It even has the ability to stream video with a number of different webcams(although somewhat laggy) to view progress. It even has a TouchUI that operates well with the "Official Raspberry Pi Touchscreen".

Ultimately, it allows you to upload sliced files to the Raspberry Pi and run/monitor your print via the Pi itself or remotely. It would be incredibly convenient if I could just throw a Pi in my enclosure next to my super-nifty Black Box. I could even mill a new face panel for the enclosure to allow for the installation of the touchscreen. :)

Granted, it requires a precompiled disk image vs an app, but the idea might be worth kicking around.

*BTW, I'm having an incredibly hard time getting OpenBuilds CONTROL to work on my current RPi...

I’m using a pi4 but I’ve decided to go with cncjs as there is now a decent instruction set up on the wiki. There’s also a good Facebook group headed up by Mich who can help out with anything about cncjs

I'm not completely familiar with CNCJS. Does it interface with the Black Box?

*And of course Facebook is down the one time in 3 months I try to log in.
