Hello all, I have some trouble with my Y axes. This is what I have so far:

2 1605 ball screw axes for the Y both mounted on the left en right side of the machine driven by two 3.0 amps 23 nema motors and those two lead to one TB 6600.
The X is an 8mm lead screw with nema 23 and 3.0 amps motor also on a TB 6600
The Z motor is also 8mm leadscrew with nema 23 and 3.0 amps on a TB 6600
    In past I had belts and then I could do a feedrate of 2500 (at least that was the fastest I had gone}
Now my machine will only go as fast as 900 mm/min, If I will go faster it loses steps and grind and that means that also my X axes go as fast as 900mm/min
Until yesterday all axes where on 16 steps/rev. This afternoon I have put the Y axes on 32 steps/rev but that did not help at all.
So my question is what can I do to increase the feedrate on the Y axes.

P.S. If I made some mistakes in my message then forgive me, its bin 50 years since I had English on school.

    Drop it to 1/8th microstepping.

Oke Peter, did that but it did not help at all. Its still on 900 mm/min and when I slowly increase with 10mm it stalls by 960 so droped it down again to 900. Both Y motors are now on one TB 6600 and go directly to the Arduino. If I split those two motors on two TB 6600 and then go to the arduino would that make a difference.

    It may help

But replace the TB6600s with decent drivers (or even better, an OpenBuilds BlackBox 4X - comes with full tech support (; , easier wiring, reliability and a warranty see https://docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox )

The old TB6600s breakouts had a very slow internal oscillator that limits maximum speed and causes stalling.

    Hello Peter,
I have seen the Black Box but its costly. Can you give me the guaranty that it will work?

Before I can do that, send me a datasheet for your motors :)

What descent stepper drivers can you recommend?

DQ542MAs - we used to stock them, but don't anymore, BlackBox is all the better and all wrapped it (EMI affecting wiring between controllers and drivers, the mess of wires, proper star grounding, proper power wiring, all that goes away when you a get a BlackBox)

    Ok, so your motors:

    Rate Voltage(V): 4.8
    Rate Current(A): 3.0
    Phase resistance(Ω): 1.6
    Phase Inductance(mH): 6.8

Out NEMA23s have 3v coils, 4.8 will be a little slower on the acceleration but should still run great on a BlackBox
The 6.8mH Inductance of your motors are a bit high, these aren't great motors, but you should be able to get it to around 3-4000mm/min with your 1605s I'd estimate (no guarantee on the final number of course as many other mechanical factors come into play)

    Hello Peter,

I looked at the DQ542ma and I can order them at 20 Euro a peace excl. sending cost. But then I am struggling with all the loose wires. So the Black box is a very nice solution.

It's worth it man, we designed it make building machines EASIER for EVERYONE!

Not only a solid product with everything on board, but I dare say the BEST documentation (start [OpenBuilds Documentation], and https://docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox) and awesomest videos (see https://www.youtube.com/user/OpenBuilds/search?query=blackbox) in the industry.

While you are putting in an order, get yourself a Probe too (; just makes setting up Jobs later on a heck of a lot easier too: See https://docs.openbuilds.com/xyzprobe

I' v seen all the video's already and it was always on the back off my mind but the price was always an issue. The XYZ probe is also very nice and should make live easier but I have to consider the price to. I can only spend it just once.
