I am almost done making a portable concrete router and want to have a spring on the Z lead screw so if the diamond bit encounters a hard spot it can ride up a bit and go over it. I was thinking of using a reduction stand off plate kit to allow the driven pulley some vertical movement and put a spring between the bearing and backup ring at the top of the lead screw. Anyone have any input on this?

Shop is a bit of a mess, it will look better after I finish the base.

Honestly, I'd just put another gantry plate between the router mount and the Z-axis and let the weight of the router riding on the gantry plate be the control factor. If you need to add a spring later, so be it.
