    Hello Fellow Makers,

I am looking to get a CNC. I just discovered Open Build.

I am looking to cut / mill, both metal (aluminium / thin Steel) and wood.

what would be the do it all configuration for my needs.
    In my shop I have a table of : 1100mm x 2100mm

I was going for the Open Build Lead 1010, would it be a good first CNC ? What are the main difference between a 1010 and 1515 beside the size ?

    I live in Europe,
what distributor do you recommend there ? ( I have found makersupplies from Danemark are they reliable ? )

    Thanks.
    Thomas

If you want to mill metal then get the smallest machine that will do the jobs you want to do - larger machines inevitably have less rigidity than smaller ones. If you need a 1515 then milling metals in a corner of the machine rather than the middle will help.

I have looked around the forum and I have come to the conclusion that the openBuild Workbee might be sturdier than the LEAD.
The workbee might be better suited for metal work (thin steel and aluminium )

I don't have a lead machine to compare (I have successfully milled aluminium and steel with my workbee), but plenty of people are milling metals with the lead machine.

It should be the opposite. LEAD is more rigid, and if you need even more rigidity, the High Z mod adds an extra X gantry rail as well. The 2080 uprights are stronger than plate uprights. The modular design makes maintaining and modifying it a snap as well

Just got my package today from makersupplies.dk - makersupplies.dk from Danemark.
Everything looked alright. I haven't done the accounting of every bit and pieces yet, but all major components seems to be here. Everything was well packed and the delivery was pretty quick.

I already have mounted the 1515 table.

Now I am starting the CNC build.

Since I am planning to do plasma cutting like the one in Dr D-Flo video,
the only thing I am struggling to find is a big aluminium tray to put the water and the steel slides.

Any suggestion on how to get a large watertight aluminium tray to use as a waterbed for plasma cutting ?

Buy a sheet of aluminium, cut the corners out, bend the sides up, take it to someone with a mig welder to fix the corners :)

Have fun with the build - take your time to do it right.
