I am looking for ideas on how to move a gantry along a 10’ long bed for a slab flattening mill.
    Suggestions?

I would think that since you are just flattening slabs and do not need a lot of precision in the x and y, a dual belted system (poor man's rack and pinion) for x and y would be an inexpensive solution and use a lead screw for the z axis.
