Yes your on the right track, if the filament binds it will cause under extrusion
I have some just have not tryed it yet
Also a good idea to stop skipped steps / keep transistor temps down
Be sure to square the z also tune the driver to about 75% on the pot
You may have to change the hotend thermistor settings as mine is set for the e3d

X and Y axis step setting is 80
Z 400 and esteps start at 720
Look at the drawing closer and then look at the pin out of your endstop
