I started this one off with an plank of wood I had laying around for about 15 years. I didn't know what species it was until I ran it through the band saw. What a nice surprise to find it was Cherry. Cherry has become my favorite carving wood out of all I've worked with. It holds detail very well with little tear out or chipping, and with good sharp tooling, it is practically ready for finishing straight off the machine. A light sanding is usually about all it takes.

I used the dome dish feature within the clipart section of Vcarve, made it into an oval shape and imported the model. I then drew an oval shape around the model for the profile/ cutout shape of it. A simple but effective way to frame in your carving without adding hours of carving time with a highly detailed frame.
