This is a Poseidon/ Atlantis mythical carving composite model I did using a couple different models. I used Meshmixer to extract the frame from another model, and weld it to another model. I also added some Z depth to the main model. So it's basically a customized, one of a kind carving. Meshmixer is totally free, and is quite powerful, and has a ton of features. I am just learning how to use it, so I really can't give much advice about how to use it.

After I completed my changes in Meshmixer, I exported the file as an STL and loaded it into V-carve as usual.

I used a 1/4" down cut EM for the roughing pass, a 1mm. tapered ball nose for the finish pass and a .125 end mill for the cut out tool path.

I had to use a Dremel tool with a flexible extension with a small diamond bit for cleaning this piece up afterwards because of all the fine lines and details in it. It worked very well, but does take time to do. A sanding mop was used where I didn't have to worry about it damaging any fine lines.

Hope you all like this project, and feel free to ask any questions. I will do my best to answer. Thanks.

The sun was starting to set in these pictures, and gave it a very red/ orange hue. It looked so cool in person.

Thanks for sharing : i would love to do something like this .
I am a retired tool maker investigating the open build type of cnc machines available to get started. I'm not sure which machine to invest in' do you have any suggestion?
    Thanks .

Well, I can tell you that all the projects I have posted here, have been done on the Lead 1010 machine, start to finish. I would highly recommend it without any doubt. There are plenty of other configurations available though as well, and I can't see why they wouldn't be just as capable. So it just comes down to personal preference as far as the physical layout goes, like wider X, or longer Y, Z height etc..... The electronics packages are very well matched for these machines as well. Thanks
