I'm thinking about building a 3D printer and want to build parts of it using my C-beam CNC router (similar to Lead 1010) to save a little $ and put the CNC machine to good use. Of course it would also have a bunch of open build parts in it as needed. Any suggested builds to look at?
Most people use 3D printed parts to make 3D printers as I did many years ago. Have you checked youtube to see what's about? I used my CNC to build an Ultimaker style printer (MDF cabinet) from someone called "Campy" using reprap parts but who seems to have disappeared) . I also did some mods to the project before building it. It may not be what you are looking for though.
After digging around a bit I found the X3D Core XY machine which looks a lot like what I had in mind. Build a baltic birch plywood frame/cabinet and drop the moving parts in. Would be nice if the Open Build folks had a kit for the moving parts and a drawing for the frame. I'm beginning to believe it is illegal to build any two DIY 3D printers the same!
