    Hello,

I am trying to generate my third model for my cnc. But I have a lot of issues with the manufacturing tools:
    • On the first step the tool is always going up to the surface between each step (optimization issue) => is it the correct way to do it?
    • On the second step (the Pocket 1), I see that I have a rounded corner and I don't know how to avoid it
    1.jpg
    • On third operation (Pocket 2), it only digging into the corner in place of the whole border
      2.jpg
    • And finally on my two facing operations I am hitting the border of my material when moving in.

I am really sorry about all those newbie questions, I am pretty comfortable with the 3d modeling but the manufacturing stuffs are completely new to me.

    Regards,
    BEnjamin

I'll play around with the file.

    What tools do you have?
    1. diameter
    2. flute count
    3. flute profile (regular, variable, rougher, o-flute, etc.)
    4. flute length
    5. tip profile (corner radius or bevel, flat, fishtail, drill point)

    What machine are you using?
    What spindle/router are you using?
What material are you cutting? (I'm assuming aluminum.)
    How are you holding it?
What are your actual stock dimensions?

    3. flute profile (regular, variable, rougher, o-flute, etc.): regular (I guess)
    4. flute length: 60mm
    5. tip profile (corner radius or bevel, flat, fishtail, drill point): flat
What machine are you using? A Workbee 1500mm x 1500m from Ooznest
What spindle/router are you using?: Makita: https://www.amazon.fr/Makita-RT0700C-Affleureuse-240-V/dp/B007NZHNX2

Sweet. With that info, we can start talking.

The very first thing to think about is how you are going to machine it. The design has a 6mm wide slot. Your tool is 6mm in diameter. This is kind of a no no. If you were using a 4mm end mill (or smaller), then there wouldn't be an issue. You want to avoid going 100% WOC (width of cut) for a few reasons. 1) You can't clean up your faces/walls if you cut straight to it. 2) Going 100% leaves no room for chip clearing, which would cause excess heating and marring along the walls. 3) You only be able to use the tip of the tool which is just a waste of money. If you try to go deeper, the machine will just get loaded up and flex everywhere. This is both audible and visible chatter.

So if we back it up to the design stage, do you need that groove to be 6mm wide? Can you go with an 8mm wide groove? Do you have smaller tooling? Are you willing to make a tool change?

    EDIT:
Do you need that hole to go all the way through the block?

    EDIT 2:
That hole is just to make sure the corner radius of the tool does not interfere with the material you are going to cut later down the road. If that's all it's for, you don't have to have the center point on the corner. You can bring it in more. This would allow for easier machining as well.

    Hi again,

Ok thank you already for those comments.
About the tooling I have some low quality bits smaller than 6mm but I didn't have tried those bits and I am not sure if they are finally adaptable or not because I had to buy adapters for it.
Anyway, for aluminium I guess that it is better to use a good quality one and that is not an issue to change the slot to 8mm in place of 6.
I already see that this change fix my two pocket issues even if I am not sure why it also fix my first pocket issue...

To be honest I have started from the ooznest design for it: Ooznest XYZ Touch Probe - Corner Probe - WorkBee CNC Machine
So I think that the hole is use to be able to probe the X / Y axe faster than touching the edge each time so yes I think that it will be helpful to keep it.
And the same design is use on this store : Makerparts XYZ Touch Probe

Thank again for your help on it!
