    Hello,

I have been using the Largest format OX CNC for a few years now. Everything has been going really well except for an issue last night and tonight. I feel like maybe the X/Y motors are shot, but maybe something else is wrong.

It just doesn't seem to be as strong as it used to be. Typical cuts that I've done in the past it seems it cannot do. The motors basically skip while trying to cut wood and end up all over the place. I can move the motors with just a little bit of force by hand.

Could anyone provide any insight into what my issue may be? I just feel like maybe the motors are worn out and honestly hope that is the only issue. If it is. Would these motors be an appropriate upgrade?

Stepper motor drivers may be bad.

If suddenly all of them seem to be getting weaker I’d be more inclined to suspect the power supply.

Replacing the controller with a beefy BlackBox Motion Control System and the PSU with a 24V Meanwell Power Supply Bundle should get you cutting like never before!

    More info on https://docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox

Motors are unlikely to go bad (at least from loosing power symptom)... If they do go bad, shot bearings or rusted interiors tend to be something that can happen in extreme abuse, or if you have very bad luck you could burn out one or both of the coils (but that symptom would be no movement at all, so its not that)

I received the blackbox yesterday and got it wired in today. I haven't tested cutting anything yet, but I can home and jog the machine. Gonna run some test cuts tomorrow.

Biggest question I have right now is that I have a jtech 2.8 laser attached to it as well. Right now it's wired into the pwm and the spindle is connected to 0-10v. Is this correct? Do I need to pull the m3/m5 jumper? Would I need to swap back and forth for laser/spindle? I am thinking of swapping to a dewalt with the iot relay instead of a spindle if that would make things easier.

Secondly, I have a probe wired in, but dont see a probe feature in the openbuild program. Does that feature exist, if not, what is the best way to use a probe, at least for z?

As Grbl only has one 'output' you may want to add some switches to control what gets activated. Either switching the signal lines or power to the relevant device (both can get their signals, but if say the laser is powered off it won't do anything)

Z probe wizard is in the dropdown menu next to the Z DRO in Control. XY is coming soon

Ok, that's how I had it set up previously. Basically change 30 - 32 and switch power to the laser. Should I have it on 0-10v instead of pwm?

Gotcha, I'll explore a but more today. So far it seems to be going well.

Depends what the laser driver needs. Most take pwm at 5v. 0-10v may damage a 5v input
0-10v is more often found in industrial equipment like VFD spindles etc
