    Hi,

I am hoping to build a camera slider, and have found loads of general information on how to go using arduino driver and vslot.

However I have some requirements that I need to confirm can be met.

Gantry payload, camera is about 500g
I need to accelerate as fast as possible
Need to travel upto 40cm in around a second

Will a nina 17 in a vslot actuator achieve this? If not could someone suggest what could work in my (small) budget of €250

From standstill? Or after a period of acceleration?

From stand still, 40mm/s would be absolute max,

    cm or mm

Overall though, for best acceleration i'd recommend a NEMA23 with a DQ542MA driver behind it if the goal is high speed / fast acceleration

If its lighter weight and slow work like timelapses etc NEMA17s will do

Sorry, to clarify it is definitely 400mm/sec

While steady state 400 mm/s is possible, moving 400 mm in one second from a standing start is a challenge. Not only acceleration but deceleration needs to be factored in so you will need to hit well north of 400 mm/sec. Also, you might need some dampening time at the end for your camera though a mirrorless camera with IBIS may minimize that. Definitely skip the NEMA17 stepper. Look for low inductance NEMA23s. You will want higher voltage (maybe 24V would work, 36 or 48 would be better) and a good quality driver like the DQ542MA peter recommended. It will still take some experimenting.

Interesting problem. I'd like to hear what you wind up with.
