Rattm 2.2KW Square Air Cooled Spindle Motor

    Hi All

    Ive been looking at upgrading the spindle I have on my workbee 1050.

    I currently have a 24v er11 Chinese spindle Machifit ER11 Chuck 500W Spindle Motor with 52mm Clamps and Power Supply Spe | eBay but im after upgrading as i find it a little under powered.

    I've been looking at a Rattm 2.2kw 2400rpm air cooled spindle s-l1600.jpg 『UK&EU』 2.2KW Square Air Cooled Spindle Motor ER20 24000rpm 6A 4000HZ CNC Router | eBay but as i'm just starting out in cnc, i'm not sure whether this spindle requires a VFD as im looking for something that really I can just connect to my Xpro V4 for spindle speed control.

    I am restricted on space in my shop which is why I use air cooled spindles and don't really want to have to find room to house the VFD, so if anyone can help or make recommendations i would really appreciate it

    Hi Rob, Yes this spindle requires a VFD, and is probably too heavy for a Workbee
    Simplest solution would be a small router like the Makita RT0701 or the Dewalt 611, will be loads more power than what you have now.
    For on/off control an external relay would be used. easy way is with this.

    Thanks Gary.

    I do like the idea of the switched relay but I’m in the uk, using 230volt type G plug. Is there a way of adapting this switch or will I need to make my own? (Any links on how to do this world be helpful)

    We couldn't possibly give you advice on making your own for obvious legal reasons - fortunately there are 230V versions available - try Amazon or Google - I had a link to one a few weeks ago, but can't find it at the moment - will post it here when I do.

    I’m in leeds. And thanks for the help Alex. It’s a pity that sparkfun have only brought out an American version, it would have been ideal for connecting directly to the cnc and dust extractor

    Could always use a 40A SSR like I always do and wire yourself, if comfortable with that.
    In rush, on a router With variable speed is not much as they typically soft start.

    Yes - the one I have found so far is a bit expensive - will keep looking, might want one myself. I thought about building a combined on/off and speed controller but can't share the details of that idea because of liability concerns.
