Was wondering if there is any reason not to use the long plate on the Z axis to achieve more travel on a linear Z I am about to make , it seems looking around all the Z plates are short and the longer plate is on the X side fixed ?
Option 1 gives me move Z travel in the down position whereas option 2 gives more travel up.
I have approx 190mm travel in total on the Z

    Pros Cons of each arrangement

Which is better truly depends on what you wish to use your machine for. The second option is better for thinner, harder materials while the first is better for softer, thicker materials.
