When my Ekocycle Cube was bricked with a permanent error message, I contacted 3DS Customer Support and harangued them until they sent me a .zip file of the SD card files (customized for my serial number). The procedure then was to format the SD card, extract the files directly to the SD card, and reinstall the card. The printer came up asking for it's serial number, messed around a while and then booted up normally.

It might be worth a try to call them.

I'm giving it a shot. So far, they've been rather helpful, and might be able to revive my printer.

UPDATE: They were able to get me the files to fix the printer! It is working as well as it did beforehand. Now all I need to do is get another micro SD for the Raspberry PI i pulled it out of. Thanks for the tip, JT!

Yay! Glad you got it sorted.

And, I'm glad to hear 3DS is still willing to support Ekocycle Cube/Cube3.

Hi,
I am a master degree student in Singapore. We have a cube 3 printer in our university. I am working on cyber-physical systems and as a part of that I need to control my 3D printer like the nozzle and bed movement. I know the original Cube 3 firmware doesn’t allow that but can I do that sort of controlling with Cube Toolbox. Because
for my project,
I need to establish a control of the nozzle with my computer.

Thank you.

Cubo 3: v1.14B

Cubepro: v2.00

Notas de versão do Patcher:

Buggy então deletou os arquivos
____________________
v1.11

2. Faça o download do firmware
3. Abra o Firmware no Cube Toolbox
4. firmware de patch

So I downloaded firmware 2.0 for my cubepro, but ithe firmware "fails to download" from the usb with both the normal V 2.0 and the patched V 2.0. I'm currently on firmware V2.02. Any proposed solutions? Is there a limit on the size the usb can be?

Did you use the method outlined in post #375 on this thread?
(i.e., rename the 2.0 firmware file to match the exact name of the currently running firmware file...)
The firmware load function will not accept a filename of an earlier version...

I didn't see anything about that in post #375.. Am I missing something?
Am I supposed to rename my v2.02 file to something like v1.14B?

Update: never mind. I read through and found the various things I needed! Testing in progress!
I can't say how thrilled I would be for this to work, so it can be my backup PLA printer. After years of struggling, we were able to get a Prusa 2.5 that prints like a dream.

So I commented on the print3dforum post about this and I don't know if people would be able to help in this but I put the "fixed" firmware into my Cube 3 so that I can use any filament and when I put my modified cartridge (nothing done to the chip) and attempt to start a print, the print will halt and say that the cartridge was removed and then will say its not installed and will stop the print. I tried a few cartridges and tried resetting and doing it again to no avail. I currently have put the old un-patched firmware back in the printer and it works just fine but obviously I still run into the issue of that percentage ticking down when I make prints like normal. I don't really see other people having this issue and I wonder if this is just my printer being borked or what. the only alternative I found was some hardware build, an ebay listing to reset the chip, and a $150 chip resetter that people have mentioned several times. I'd prefer to find a way to fix this patched firmware issue than be spending any more extra money on this project if possible.

Any ideas?

Idea 1 - Try 'fixing' the stock firmware yourself. The method can be found in this thread, if I remember - if not, then in the Print3dForum.com thread. The reason I suggest this is that a couple of us have come up with differences in the value of the checksum on the two hex code lines that are changed. You just need to use a hex editor, and search for the telltale hex strings, and subtract something (0x10, I think) from the certain bytes, and then add that same amount to the checksum byte at the end of each of the lines.
Look here
Cube 3 / Pro hacks

Idea 2 - There is a DIY cartridge resetter that is pretty easy if you are fairly handy with computery stuff. I used an Arduino Nano clone, which I got on ebay for about $10 for three of them.
Look at haxtom.com. The basic resetter microcode was free, but for a reasonable donation, Tomuro will provide you the microcode to not only reset the % used, but also change the cartridge type (Cube vs Ekocycle), material, and color.

Where do u find it? I read through the howl thread and didn't find anything.
Only the "Rename the same and Swap USB Drive" but my Cube Pro trio always cancels the update process immediately after I unplug the USB.

My Specs:
CubePro Trio
Firmware. 2.02

What I Want:
Install the patched 2.00 Firmware

Can someone help?

Hi, is there any way to patch the ekocycle printer? I patching the firmware but it's not supported, so I patched the cube firmware and it updated that firmware but when I tried to update by USB it won't work. I renamed the firmware to match the latest firmware available for the ekocycle v1.05 and I renamed it to v1.06 but wouldn't work. Any ideas? This thing is basically worthless as the only way to buy filament is 3d systems with 4 colors and old stock not to mention the price. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm not super great with this kind of stuff but I think this will probably be my best option plus then I get to learn but I have no clue where to start other than buy a arduino nano and breadboard kit. I hate to be the newb in this forum but I've had this thing for years and wanting to actually use it. Anyone able to assist so I know what the hell to do?

Have you wired up something electronic on a breadboard before?

Have you installed the patched "do not update the cartridge % used" firmware?

Check your PM.

All of Cubify is available through this page: http://cubify.s3.amazonaws.com/
...just add the subfolder and filename from within the list.

We've set up a small mini subforum for all things CubePro recently here: CubeX / CubePro Forum

Just in case anyone wants to chime in on firmware hacks, gcode injections, filament hijacking and all things CubePro :D

Looks like the Cube3 has been mostly left behind, but I still had mine sitting and I got bored, so I made a new nozzle assembly that relocates the stupid T24 causing switches to the top of the print head. I'm using this with the "hubcap" extruder. If anybody else is still using theirs and interested to try it, it's on Thingiverse - STL and Solidworks files.
