Looking to add optical endstop(s) to my CNC router. The problem I am having is finding the right one. In particular, I want to get one to detect the end of whatever bit I have installed to set my Z axis, but so far I have not found any that would be wide enough. Anybody here got some suggestions?

An optical limit may not be the best idea consiy that there will be chips/dust flying around.

If you are absolutely dead set on this, check DigiKey. I know they have wider optical switches. You also didn't mention what "wide" is.

What I am thinking is something that the opening is wide enough to allow me to home the router bit. So far, the only ting I have found only as approx 3/16 opening. I was hoping for something to allow a wider bit.

Optical toolsetters are usually laser-based, not IR LED like limits. I'm assuming this is so they can be focused to a very narrow beam with a very crisp edge in order to get the best possible- and repeatable- "snap" action as the tool enters the beam.
