Allright guys, bear with me here, I am very new to the CNC world, and especially building from scratch.

I will be building a C-Beam plate maker, kit is on the way. I am planning on running a Raspberry Pi 3 with the Protoneer Raspberry Pi CNC Hat. I will be using external driver, still deciding which ones.

There seem to be many different version of the Pi CNC I can see others built on. Some have Arduino Uno, I believe, attached to them. Is this necessary or the newer version of Pi CNC has it built in?

Any other information will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks Frank. I will be ordering one this week. I just finished putting my C-Beam plate maker together.

Don't forget to get the external driver board adapter.

Brian, while I can't add a lot as I'm still building my machine but I'm using a RPi3 & Protoneer hat. At this point I'm waiting on some standoffs to finish mounting it them my machine should be ready.

I use the protoneer Pi3CNC board on my CNC and use BCNC / Raspbian to run it. I have had no problems with it in about 2 years. I use VCNC so I can use my tablet to control everything. As for the external drivers, I used these: DQ542MA Stepper Motor Driver

Sorry, it's VNC to connect your tablet to the Pi3/Protoneer, not VCNC :)
