    Great Build @Roy Berntsen ! Great large 3D printer. I also really like the idea of belted Z to remove any lead wobble from the system. How do you keep the bed from lowering when power is off?

    Have you seen the z-axis electrical brake from LulzBot "Here"?

    Looks like a nice solution to a belt driven z-axis.

    I use a 1:20 wormgear to hold the bed from falling. It can take a party on the bed nothing happening

    Believe me I have been though most solutions for the belted Z as did the designer of the KISS CoreXY as is the inspiration for this design and we both found the wormgear being the simplest, easiest and reliable solution. Its only downside is that it is not easy to find a supplier with a reliable tolerance scheme for these gears. We are currently researching some from misumi with a lower module

    My current supplier is a Chinese on AliExpress and they are not always good

    I agree the worm gear is a great simple solution. I like the idea of the break as well and I could see that being helpful along other axis to maintain position, but on the Z you will always have some drop, so I think the worm gear is a better choice.
    There is a company called stock drive products and they may have anti-backlash worm gear solution that may help.

    Roy, I'm interested in the control panel (iPad?) that you are using. Is it connected via bluetooth? What app are you using? Since you are using Merlin I guess that is supports this setup.

    Yes, but doesn't this add belt stretch instead when the build on the plate gets heavier?

    The belts are reinforced so no it is fine

    do you have any sources for the 555mm rod? The longest I'm finding is 500mm.

    No FB, but I will be on here a lot of the time, I'm having to redo some of the files I was given some T-Track, but it is 2525 I did order a couple piece of the 2020 V-track for some key parts, but for the most part my frame will be 2525. I will let you know how it goes I saw on GitHub you are working on some 8mm worm gear files, are you planning on changing over to an 8mm rod?

    Ok Mr. I might set up a forum on vkingprinter.com for non fb users. I need to get back to this

    I had one user wanting 8mm rod so we made a prototype. There are no plans for this to be stock setup.

    I am by the way looking for a 0.8 modul worm as this is something misumi deliver high Quality We are testing this these days

    It will be more expensive and possibly hard to get ordered so might just be an upgrade

    Hi I have a couple questions, how many 3D printed parts are needed? and are both are the worm gears needed to be bought in 5mm on the worm gear set?

    Hi Roy

    I was watching you YouTube video how you assemble the printer.
    And I noticed that the parts in your video is not the same in as the one I downloaded from this site.
    The 2 parts called X idler 5mm bracket.
    Is there a reason for this?

    Hi Mr. I am sorry if this is confusing. The machine has been improved during the last year and also some parts to improve mechanics. Do you refer to the live build or the animation?.

    If you are able to get the files from github they are always updated with latest and verified tested best parts. Can you have a look there?

    Hey Roy. I'm working on my own cartesian cube style 3D printer and was closely considering yours before deciding on my own. That said I appreciate your design and I like many of the elements of it. I'm using some of your ideas for my printer, specifically the worm gear for a belt driven Z axis. I noticed on your site under worm gear info it has 20:1 ratio worm gear and the belt run making it 40:1. Then it states 3200 step/min with 1/16 microstepping. Doing the math I only came up with 1600. Is there another reduction I'm missing? Is my math wrong?

    20t 2mm pitch pulley= 40mm per rev.
    200 step motor/40mm= 5 steps/mm
    5 step/mm x 16 microsteps = 80 microsteps/mm x 20 (for the 20:1 worm gear)= 1600 steps/mm

    Also is there a reason you ran the Z-belt the way you did versus a simple loop with the clamp on the bed frame?

    The belt is a double loop as give 2x the gearing. This similar system as to crane systems. I did have single loop first but was not happy with that system

    Ahh. Okay. Can you explain why you didn't like the single loop? That's what I had planned on but if your system works better then I will redesign.

    Sorry if this was explained in one of your blogs. I haven't had a chance to watch many of them.

    And thank you for your help and any of the parts files I may use from your build. I bought you a coffee on your site as thanks. ;)

    The single loop gave a very constrained belt path difficult to tension right. The dual loop was more forgiving I felt

    Hi Roy,

    I've downloaded your Fusion 360 file (several times) off of your website and it doesn't want to completely unpack the f360 archive. I get an error that says "Part Build Plate.f3d could not be uploaded due to access denied...Please contact project moderator for assistance". I've downloaded multiple times with the same issue. It doesn't unpack when uploaded to the web app account.

    Any ideas?

    I have just started this build, so far using Esun PLA+ with great results.

    I didn't see any mention of spacers, although I did see quite a few washers... are the washers being used as spacers for this build?
