Mntlvr, you are the first one I have seen using the Acorn controller. I have been looking at this controller for my build. Why did you choose it, I am curious as to your reasons?

    Good Build

    Thanks Johnny
Reason 1.. I have been using Mach4 with PMDX motion controller, and have had nothing but issues with that board and Windows 10 pro
Now I almost liked Mach4 but unless I change to a much more expensive Controller I seem to have to "put up" with issues.
Reason 2..Talking with the Engineers at PMDX going to their new board may or may not solve these issues and since the cost of the PMDX BOB is almost equal to the cost of Acorn I could not take the chance.
Reason 3...The Cost to buy Mach4 license and new BOB would equal the cost of Acorn and the Motion Graphics software.

Reason 1 ...I read many reviews of Large machines running retro Fit Centroidcnc motion controllers and almost all were very positive about quality and support.
Reason 2.. The Acorn kit is $325.00 delivered and comes with BOB motion controller ,Network cable and Mean Well 24vdc power supply.
The software that it comes with is 100% usable as long as the files are 50k or under. then if you want G-code files that are larger then you must purchase the unlimited package which is $139.00, so in long run it is cheaper for me to try out this board.
Reason 3..I much rather have network connection or Parallel or USB port

You might wish to go to the Centroidcnc site and look for yourself

Great, thanks. I found the Acorn removed a lot of problems with the open sourced or I wasn't sure about what I have heard about Mach 4 and Mach 3 seemed archaic to me?
I know it is a few more dollars up front but I believe it has a tremendous amount of savings in the long run. I am not an electronic specialist and don't have the patience in trying to troubleshoot them.
I may be wrong but I really liked what I have heard and read about the Acorn.

Thanks for the reply about Acorn and you maybe right about the up front cost but I do believe that as more hobbyist get involved with Acorn thy will continue to put new features in there product until Mach4 will be a second runner in Hobby Motion Controllers. I am done with the build now and if you which to have more information on what I have learned about Acorn and my build just let me know and perhaps we can help each other.

I have made a few changes to my CNC after aligning the axis. I also upgraded from free acorn software to full package , that allows me to create files as large as I need and not be limited to 50K file size, also learning ICN programming . The machine runs very well and is accurate to .001" for travel in all axis.
I have uploaded a few more images of machine
