I see you edited your Zidex build to do that, note though Zidex isnt eligible, that Build was posted on 30 June, 2017 (as per post #1 on https://openbuilds.com/threads/zidex.9521/) (Post #1 is the way we can audit the publication date)

Only NEW FRESH builds are eligible:
(The above user with an Unpublished build never had it Published, so upon publishing in the eligible period, his post #1 would be dated in the correct period. Yours were already Published)
Theres still time to do a quick new Build though (Remember, Builds are more than just machines: Barbots, Robot Arms, Jigs, Furniture, Any Build Goes! Who says a simple, quick build won't be the community favorite :)

Will there be a separate link for all eligible builds at the end of the entry period?

Not sure what happened, Peter, I went to change my tag from 2-1/3HP to 2-1/4HP and my build was unpublished. I re-published it, I don't want people to think it was published before the start of the contest, as that wasn't the case...

I am just after some clarification - I am writing up my Build now to Submit, and it's going great, but my Build itself is not complete, and my Buiild submission itself is far from complete either.
If I click on Submit Build now, say at the end of the day - is that what would be Considered for entry? or can I continue to edit my build over the next few days? I just don't want to do myself out of contention by rushing and either Not getting enough information in the submission, or lacking clarity and proper build details, etc.
Does the Build have to be Published or Unpublished - and as this is my first ever Build submission...what is the difference? Lastly - Are there any Tags required in build submission to be considered eligable for consideration?

    Regards

    Leigh

Has to be published- by pressing "Submit Build"- so it's publicly viewable between Jan 1st and the end of February. Has to be complete (and marked "Build Complete") by the end of February. Those are basically the only rules. You could publish it so you get a build thread now, but keep it marked "incomplete" until your final submission to the build section.

Do I understand correctly that the build must be marked complete for the contest? I will be constantly modifying for new features, how does that affect updating the build if it is marked complete?

I think they changed that requirement. It used to say that in the first post of this thread, but it has changed. Now it says:

"Build should minimally consist of a physical frame...if you don't have electronics because you'd like to win them here, that's ok, post your progress to date."

Do you have to be winning the electronics for that build in order for it to be valid? Like, you can't win NEMA 23s and a router if your submission is, say, a 3D printer without a hot end. That's the way it's worded in the rules, it's probably worth clarifying as a point of order though.

I could understand it going either way (though it seems to make more sense to keep it strictly to only incomplete gantry routers).

We are just saying have your frame complete (at a minimum). Hope this is helpful.

So they don't need marked complete?

Correct! Just needs to meet all the other requirements. If your build was submitted within Jab/Feb for the 1st time, you will receive a message from me that you have been entered (these are only sent once per week). We will also tag your build and you can see all entrants through this link: CONTEST ENTRIES

If anyone thinks they should have been notified/tagged and were not, please feel free to message me directly using the envelope icon at the top right of your screen.

Thanks, Mary... don't know that mine will ever be 'complete'

Fighting a water main break today, was supposed to be my day to work up my parts build sheet. :(

Thanks Rob for taking the time to reply - Although Looks like MaryD has confirmed a couple of times here that Minimal Frame must be complete to be a valid entry, no mention of being Complete by February? But you would assume that nothing more than a Box would not give you many votes...Presumably regardless of the Complete status it would be judged predominately on imagination, usefulness, design concepts, expected cost, Quite importantly ability to replicate (no pun intended, visa vee 3d Printers) - but the point being the ability for others to replicate your design for their own benefit, etc. Or even if the design shows any commercial prospects.

I suppose my main query - having never posted a Build here before - was that if I "Submit", how editable is the whole build thread once submitted? Mainly because my written build details are probably only about 10% written, and could take a few days to finalise - but as Build will not be 100% by end of comp (for instance wanting to use some gear from the Comp in it.) - then I can only write a whole lot of "To Be Decided" or To Be continued.

Yeah, the original rule was that it had to be complete so people couldn't just randomly fire off half-baked builds with what they had lying around and dilute the quality of the builds page, until someone pointed out that someone may be trying to win the parts to actually finish the build in question- in which case, enforcing a "build complete" status by the close of competition would rather defeat the purpose of getting people sharing their builds.

I'm assuming the guidelines will be something along those lines, yeah. I'd like to hope so, even as it proceeds into public judging.

You can go back in and edit your build log and your discussion posts in your own build threads at any time. General posts have a shorter window of editability, though I don't remember what it is- ten minutes or so, maybe. But in your own thread, you can do a bunch of placeholder posts up top and edit them later if you want.

That being said if the community is voting on the winner not sure a half finished idea will get the votes a finished build would get. I have 2 builds that I have started in the last 3 years and I never finished because of design issues or I just lost interesting in completing the build when something shinny came along.
If you are depending on the win to finish your build odds are you will not finish it.

LOL, I am sorry if your read it that way. When I made that comment 3 1/2 weeks ago and with what I say now there was no ill intent. I have been around the open build community for a while we tend to be open with our opinions and try to help each other out if we can there is no need to get ugly about things.

Please be aware - anyone entering Internationally - the Dewalt router (611,) unless I am wrong is US 110/115v rated (and not sure if it has switching to 230v, you might need an appropriate step-down transformer, such as 240v to 115v) - something like this for instance...1000W 240 - 120V Isolated Stepdown Transformer | Jaycar Electronics

@MaryD - could you please confirm this, or will the AU/European version be available - D26200-4 I think...
