    Hi @PoppyRoseGifts,

For my money, the Vectric range of software takes a lot to better. Have a browse of their site and perhaps download a demo version to try before you buy. http://www.vectric.com/

I was planning on buying a pre-built machine but then I came upon the OX - looks great and I really want to build one now! I'm interested in making guitars and the router I currently use is 6lbs, could the OX handle that weight? I'd probably be building one with a millable width of of 16". Thanks!

    Hi Mizuno.

Can you let us know the make and model of the router?
Likewise, you could browse the many many videos, and see if your router is being used elsewhere.

It's a Hitachi M12VC. I've been keeping an eye out and I haven't seen anyone using one with the OX, they've all been smaller ones with weights of about 3-4lbs.

I think Tweakie or Mark, (Kram242) will be able to answer this better than I can.
However, I have seen larger Routers, some of the Bosch range, being used.

Since I had to purchase the gshield V4 and seeduino V3 boards from different locations, I am quite sure that the pre-configured grbl software, or any other required software will not be included. What will I need on the software side for these?
(Where can I get the pre-configured grbl software, etc)

I am leaning towards BobCAD CAM for designing and milling.

Does anyone know when Mark is expected to get the 8mm Acme Screw in stock in 300mm length? This item will stop me from finishing my build.

    Hi Mizuno,

Paul is using a Bosch 1617EVS on his OX, and it is listed as 7.7 lbs (pby 6 lbs after you strip it down)
You can see it with my mount in this picture... There is at least one other person hooking up a 1617 to his OX... sent his mount out yesterday.

Tweakie, or Rick 2.0, or anyone at OpenBuilds....I sent a message back on 9 AUG concerning the v-slot wheel bolts being too short to mount to alum gantry plates....I have yet to even receive a response, so I just went ahead and ordered 30mm screws.....PLUS..I have 3 orders "Awaiting Fulfillment" (one of which was ordered last night, so I can understand that one AF right now).....what is going on with the other two? You guys were AWESOME in the beginning...now I can't seem to get status???? I'm hoping this all is just some accidental oversight...

You can go at 2 minutes 8 seconds in the first video in the builds section. They says to use 30mm screws to compensate for the width of the plate.

Right....However, I did not realize that the required 30mm screw lengths would not come with the wheels....and when I asked about that, I got zero response....If OpenBuilds pushes using these plates (from whomever makes them) AND identifies 30mm screws in the build video, why would they send the wheels with 25mm screws? and then not even at least identify the 30mm requirement in the parts list? Maybe this should be addressed?

I agree that it should be in the BOM if it is not.
The reason they ship the wheels with 25mm is due to the fact all the plates they sell are only 6.35mm thick.
So 30mm would be overkill and cause other issues like clearance.
I use the 25 mm from the wheel kits for the end plates :)

Did you print the router mount? Do you have your files posted somewhere? I'm about to embark on an 4x3 OX derivative and would like to see how you made the mount.

On my current router, I'm using 1/2-8, 2 start lead screw with a Bosch 1617 on it and haven't experienced slipping. NEMA 23 motors.

    Hi Kevin,

I designed the router clamp for Gwandads and my OX build, I have posted the STL's on Thingiverse. I modeled the parts in ProE, it would be fairly simple for me to alter the design to suit other router/spindle diameters.

does anyone have any information on how much of a difference there is between the delrin solid v wheels, compared to the new ploycarbonate solid v wheels. As in how much deflection it prevent compared to the delrin wheels. Or if there is some sort of number figure, as in twice as strong, or so on. Anyway, thx for your time :)

I am Looking to get started but the only thing is I need to be able to know how much the "Four Plates" cost I have to order in stages and build as I go. This design is Amazing and I am so excited to get started!!! I know there were three names listed at the beginning of this blog but I Live in California, USA. It sounds like this forum and most of the people are not in the States, not a problem as long as i can get the parts.

Anthony, check with Chris Laidlaw here on Openbuilds. He also sells them on Ebay but you may want to get them direct as I believe he is located in San Jose. Hope this gives you a start and have fun.

Hi, friends. I am new in OX Openbuilds. I would like to know is there any way to elongate v-slot for example 2750 mm. I would like to make a CNC with working area 2710x2450 mm. Or how to join or glue v-slots?

    Hi Frederic

Do you have any better pictures, or videos, showing the pen holder, or any pictures of your build?

    Cheers Gray

Mehman, this subject has been touched on several times in the forums. Unfortunately all the best suggestions are not located in a single thread so you'll have to search around a bit. Here's one to get you started http://www.openbuilds.com/threads/larger-format-machine.313/

    Thanks :)

At first I used a pencil fixed to the Z beam. It was a pain to find the best position for correct pressure on the pencil
    _MG_7699.JPG

Now I have glued a marker on a 20x20 beam. The beam is supported by wheels so that the beam and marker do roll down and so that gravity provides the pressure on the marker.
    _MG_7701.JPG

I installed an bracket on the beam so that the CNC can lift the marker.
    _MG_7700.JPG

    _MG_7702.JPG

I used hot glue, so I suppose I should be able to replace the marker when needed.

The build is a standard one as per the 2 instruction video's. The only difference is that I did not have an ACME threaded rod and used standard M8. I addition I plan to install limit switches.

    Frederic
