    Hi,

I wanna make a CNC machine/Router (mostly for wood), but having a short budget i'm tinkering on ways to do it as accessible as possible. So normal Aluminum profile instead of V-rails and this kind of wheels (picture below)...They are POM wheel with single bearing I think.

Whah kind of problems I'll face by doing it, in comparison to the V-slot system?...The idea is to build sort of an Ox esque machine, with 20x80 profiles (nut 5, non V-wheel).

    Thanks!

    K.

The vslot is actually cheaper than most equivalent extrusion.

Actually, not being in US they are more expensive, i can get normal x profile 20*40 and 20*80 (even 40*80 to make a Ox style x axis in one piece) for almost a third of the price. That's why I wanna know the pors ans cons.

There are a couple of issues that might pop up here. First the single bearing wheels may wobble. This will greatly affect the quality of your outcome. The other issue is that the rounded edges of the wheels ride against the sharp edges of the extrusion which will lead to premature wear. This is not an issue with V-slot as the beveled wheels run along a beveled surface in the V-slot.

It should be noted that several others have suggested a similar concept over the years but not a single one has come back and shown a working system. I have a pretty good suspicion as to why. I suggest you start with a single axis mock-up and test it out before you dive fully in on this.

Where are you based, we have distributors...

Money spend on insufficient parts that end up in the bin eventually, could've gone a long way to getting the good stuff (; - along with time and frustration you'd spare by getting V-Slot from the beginning
