Watching this with interest as i currently run a 1500 x 1000 Ooznest Ox, and its too big for what i need (Arcade building), so looking to downsize to 1000 x 750 which will alos give me more room in the workshop.

The idea is to utilise a lot of parts from the existing build and use C Beam's.

Good luck with the build :)

Are you trying to be able to cut 2 foot by 3 foot? If so, you need to subtract out the size of your X and Y plates from the amount you will be able to cut. I see the DTFB is 20 x 30 inches. Looking at his photos, it looks like Kyo's X plates are about 100 mm (3.93701 inches) so you should be able to cut 20 X 30 foam if there is 24 inches between the two Y plates.

    Hello Randy,
Welcome to Openbuilds. Nice to see some of the cnczone guys find their way here and posting builds. Your build is looking good. Nice case! feel free to post it up. A few guys here are using Hayri's controller now and would find it useful.

@Giarc Excellent point, another item that takes up travel that I originally over looked Is mounting things; like switches / drag chain ect. x-axis plates are 110mm wide y-axis 159mm..

Another thing that needs to be accounted for if things are getting tight is the diameter of your endmill. The larger the endmill the more cutting area lost.

Thank you guys for your comments and help. This is my first build so I am feeling it out as I go. I am in fact looking to be able to do the DTFB at 20" x 30" as the main reason for building but I plan on doing other things with it as well. Any suggestions are always welcome here for sure! As soon as I can get my plates I will be off and running further. A quick question though is I was wondering what the ideal router I should purchase for this. Been scouring the web but thought that someone could give me a good lead. Thanks again

I have been using the Dewalt 611 from "Here" for over a year now and have been very happy with it. I also grabbed a precision collet set from tinker and tinker. This year I am hoping to add a superPID to the mix. The Bosch colt "Here" is another popular option and will fit the OB router mount with out shims.

Edit: If you decide on the Dewalt and dont have access to a 3d printer; I would be happy to 3d print you the required shim at no cost just cover shipping.

Edit 2: doh; I forgot you printed your controller case. The shim for the Dewalt is here

As stated here is the box and lid .STL file for the Controller. Let me know if another format would be helpful.

I found with the 3D printed shim on the side where the OB mount is secured to the Z axis it would rest on the two corners of the corner brackets getting my router out of tram. I had to file away where the corners were so the edge was flat against the mount.

Thanks for the heads up. Is there a file somewhere that I can get to print them?

I had to do the same, just a couple notches to clear the 90 degree mounting blocks then the shim sits flush to the mount. The file is linked in my post above it was created by fellow member here @Jimmybuckets

    Kyo or anyone,

Is there any chance of getting a few pictures of your finished machine so I could get a look at how you managed all your wiring and such. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Never Mind duh! All I needed to do was to look at your build Kyo.
